Nick has over 20 years investment banking experience in international corporate finance and has advised on IPOs, acquisitions, private placements, restructurings, valuations, feasibility studies. He has worked throughout the Middle East region, leading teams in major transactions.
Nick is a former director of PriceWaterhouseCoopers and director of HSBC Global Investment Banking. He has held senior corporate finance positions within Arab Bank, Hypovereinsbank and Schroder Asseily.
His work has included lead advisory work on major transactions within telecoms and financial services throughout the Middle East, including IPOs, the sale of strategic stakes, bids to acquire targets, and the acquisitions of companies. This has included work for Middle East based clients acquiring in Europe, and on regional acquisitions. Some of the major transactions he has acted as director include the IPO of Omantel, the IPO of Investcom (DIFX’s first IPO, awarded Deal of the Year), and the privatisation of Jordan Phosphate Mining Company. He has been responsible for the structuring of debt finance products and corporate lending within Europe and the Middle East, working on credit assessment and risk management.
Nick is a Chartered Accountant, a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales, and holds an MBA from the London Business School.
Utpal is a corporate finance professional with over 12 years of experience. He specializes in corporate / project finance advisory, with a focus on infrastructure finance. He has a strong analytical background with roots in credit rating and consulting and has worked on projects in the Gulf and the Indian Subcontinent.
Utpal has worked on several important assignments and played a pivotal role in advising the UAE-based National Central Cooling Company PJSC – Tabreed, on financing its spectacular growth: Joint Venturing (in the UAE, KSA, Kuwait Bahrain, Jordan etc), funding (over US$500 million), hedging strategies, rating (S&P BBB-) etc. He also played a key role in advising on financing a major
US$170 million LPG import and distribution project in India, in association with a US Fortune 100 Company.
Prior to joining Chescor Capital, Utpal headed the Valuations Technical Committee of E&Y (India), where he and was responsible for standardizing valuation methodologies and parameters, and quality assurance. Before that, he worked for ICRA (an associate of Moody’s Investors Service) on over 40 credit rating assignments, where he served on the Rating Committee, and was a member of the Ratings Technical Group responsible for development and improvement of rating methodologies and financial analysis techniques. He also specialized in infrastructure finance, and tracked the Indian Telecom and Road sectors from a credit rating perspective.
He started his career in India with PricewaterhouseCoopers where he worked on a number of international agency-funded consulting engagements in the power and banking sectors.
Utpal has Bachelors and Masters Degrees from India’s top engineering and business schools (IIT and IIM).
